We’re looking for a People Operations Generalist to support our team and ensure consistent, compliant, and supportive HR practices across our distributed workforce.

Location: Remote (US-based), with the ability to occasionally commute to and assist at our Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) warehouse.

Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt (Permanent Position).

POSITION SUMMARY: The People Operations Generalist supports ShipHero employees and managers across the employee lifecycle. This role owns day-to-day people operations processes, maintains accurate employee records, coordinates US benefits and payroll activities, and helps the team apply consistent, compliant practices across a distributed workforce. The Generalist partners with colleagues supporting employees and contractors in the US, Canada, and other countries.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None. This is an individual contributor role.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Manage onboarding, employee changes, leave administration, and offboarding, including documentation, system updates, and timely communication with employees and managers.
  • Maintain accurate HRIS and personnel records; prepare reports, track data quality, and protect confidential employee information.
  • Coordinate US benefits administration, including eligibility, enrollment, life events, vendor follow-up, and employee questions about the 401(k) plan and other available benefits.
  • Partner with payroll to validate employee data, time off, deductions, and changes for US payroll; coordinate with regional partners on Canadian and global employee and contractor processes.
  • Support US employment compliance across applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including hiring and work authorization records, wage and hour practices, leave administration, required notices, record retention, and policy updates.
  • Monitor deadlines and process changes; research issues, document findings, and escalate legal or complex employee relations questions to the appropriate People Operations or legal partner.
  • Guide managers and employees through policies, performance processes, employee relations concerns, and routine people questions with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Coordinate background checks, employment verifications, and employee documentation in line with company policy and applicable requirements.
  • Support recruiting coordination, interview scheduling, and offer and reference check processes as needed.
  • Improve workflows, templates, and employee communications; contribute to People Operations projects as business needs evolve.

Position Qualifications:

EDUCATION: A degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 or more years of broad People Operations or HR Generalist experience, with direct responsibility for multiple employee lifecycle processes.
  • Working knowledge of US employment compliance and experience applying HR policies across more than one US jurisdiction.
  • Experience administering HRIS records, benefits processes, payroll inputs, and confidential employee documentation.
  • Experience with the administration of compliance/leaves such as FMLA, workers compensation, EEOC, ACA, I-9, ERISA, Form 5500, state tax/UI registration, withholding and filing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, research, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and a service-oriented approach to employee and manager support.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience supporting a global workforce and coordinating with regional HR, payroll, or employment partners.

• Familiarity with Rippling or a comparable HRIS and payroll platform; strong spreadsheet skills.

  • Proficient computer skills; ability to use and learn multiple systems. Advanced knowledge of Excel is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, acute sense of urgency.
